GARDNER - Hendryka (Stankiewicz) Kapacziewski, 86, of 59 Harvard Street, Gardner, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home in Gardner.
Mrs. Kapacziewski was born in Gardner on January 10, 1924, the daughter of the late Alexander and the late Sophie (Kapacziewski) Stankiewicz.
She was a lifelong resident of Gardner and graduated from Gardner High School with the class of 1942. While attending Gardner High she was a member of the school swim team.
She worked as a Fire Alarm Assembler for the Simplex Time Recorder Company for nearly twenty-five years until her retirement in 1989.
Mrs. Kapacziewski was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Gardner. She enjoyed knitting, dancing, swimming, bingo and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She leaves her son, Alan F. Kapacziewski and his wife Louise of Northborough; her daughter, Janice S. Flanagan and her husband Daniel of Gardner; her brother, Frederick Kapacziewski and his Carolyn of Lynn; five grandchildren, Daniel Flanagan, Jr. and his wife Brittney of Kentucky, Sandra Pellecchia and her husband Ryan of Leominster, Meggin Hendley and her husband Jarrod of Leominster, Amy O'Shaughnessy and her husband James of Manchester, NH, Alan J. Kapacziewski and his wife Lisa of Worcester; five great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-four years, Joseph F. Kapacziewski on January 26, 2000; also by her brother, Alexander Stankiewicz, and by her sister, Josephine Tarmasewicz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner.
A calling hour will be held Wednesday, March 24, 2010 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant Street, Gardner.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to St. Joseph's Church - Building Fund, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner, MA 01440 or to The Arthritis Foundation - Massachusetts Chapter, 29 Crafts Street, Suite 450, Newton, MA 02458-1287, or to Wachusett Manor Nursing Home Activity Fund 32 Hospital Hill Road, Gardner, MA 01440 or to a charity of one's choice.
The family would like to express it's sincere thanks to the home care givers, the staff at Wachusett Manor Nursing Home and the physicians and nurses attending to Mom's care. Their compassion and attention to mom's and her family's needs truly helped us during this most difficult time.
