ATHOL - Henry J. Gailiunas, 80, of 384 Exchange St., Athol, died Friday, December 12, 2008 in the UMass Memorial Medical Center - Memorial Campus, Worcester after a brief illness.
He was born in Athol on April 30, 1928, the son of the late John and the late Kostancija (Matulis) Gailiunas.
Mr. Gailiunas grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School. He graduated from Boston College, then received his Degree in Dentistry from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. He served in the United States Navy as a Dentist and Officer. He practiced dentistry at his residence in Athol for 44 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Board of Directors at the Athol Clinton Cooperative Bank since 1970, acting on the Security Committee. He was a member of St. Francis Church in Athol, the Knights of Columbus, and was President of the Knights of Lithuania.
He leaves his wife of ten years, Bronislava (Sinkeviciute) Gailuiniene of Athol; his sister, Irene Hennigan of Pembroke, MA; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. in the St. Francis Of Assisi Church, 101 Main St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 - 11:45 a.m. at the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol.
