Henry L Joly

Rev. Henry L. Joly, 83, of Hollidaysburg, PA, formerly of Athol, MA. passed away peacefully on Friday August 9, 2013 at the Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg, PA. He was born in Athol, on February 5th, 1930, the son of the late William and Diana (Savoie) Joly, where he was one of fourteen children that were raised by his parents in Athol. Rev. Joly was a 1948 graduate of Assumption Preparatory School, Worcester, MA and received a B.A. from Assumption College, Worcester, MA in 1954, and an S.T.B. from Catholic University of Paris in 1958, was ordained a priest on May 22, 1958, in Lormoy (STO), France, and received an M.A. from Anna Maria College, Worcester, in 1977. He was a member of the Augustinians of the Assumption from 1949-1961 and served as a Priest in the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown, PA from 1961 to the present. He served as pastor of St. Michael Parish, West Salisbury, PA, from 1977-1981, pastor of Holy Family Church, Culver, PA, from 1981-1988, pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Brownstown, PA, from 1988-1989, and pastor of St. Thomas More Church, Roaring Spring, PA, from 1989-1995. He retired from the priesthood on June 25th, 1995. The Rev. Joly served as a chaplain and captain in the U.S. Air Force from 1969-1972 and received the National Defense Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Commendation Medal. He leaves behind two sisters; A. Rita Raymond of AZ, Vicky Janik of Athol, three brothers: Francis and Robert Joly, both of Athol, and Omer John Joly of CA. He was predeceased by his parents, four sisters and four brothers. Calling hours will be held at the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home 1356 Main St. Athol, MA on Thursday,  August 15th, 2013 from 6:00pm-8:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday August 16th, 2013 at 10:00am at Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St. Athol. Burial will follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Fiskdale, MA.
