Hilda F. (Olafson) Hastings

Hilda F. Hastings Athol – Hilda F. (Olafson) Hastings, 100, formerly of Starrett Avenue, died July, 4, 2013 at the Quabbin Valley Healthcare .      Hilda was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 16, 1913, the daughter of Olaf and Anna (Soderberg) Olafson.   She grew up and attended schools in North Dana, graduating from New Salem Academy in 1931.        While living in North Dana she attended the North Dana Congregational Church and since 1935 she has been a member of the Athol Congregational Church where she was a member of the crafter’s group, the mission study group and women’s fellowship.  Hilda was a homemaker, enjoying her home and her family.  Hilda enjoyed her 100th birthday party held at the Quabbin with family and many friends attending.      Her husband, Clifton W. Hastings died in 1991.  Hilda leaves her son Stephen Hastings and his wife Diane  of Greenfield, MA; a daughter Karen Hastings of Athol;  a daughter-in-law Barbara Hastings of Proctor, VT.; a granddaughter Meghan Harrington and her husband Ken of Billerica, MA and a great grandson Curtis Hastings Knapton.   She also leaves nephews and grand nieces and nephews  Besides her husband she was predeceased by a son Douglas Hastings in 2011, a granddaughter Christa Hastings Knapton in 1997 and two sisters, Ember Bunker and Bertha Walsh.      Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.  at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol with the Rev. Dr. Beverly Prestwood-Taylor, pastor of the Athol Congregational Church officiating.  Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery and calling hours will be held Monday, July 8, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.   Following the burial a reception will be at the Athol Congregational Church.
