Irene A. Cullen

Irene Annie (Pietrowsky) Cullen, went home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2025, at Alliance Health at Baldwinville, in Templeton, MA. Irene was born on May 14, 1932, in Athol, MA to Walter and Mary (Szymcik) Pietrowsky. She was married to Donald Frances Cullen for 49 years until his passing in 2001 and lived the majority of her life in Athol. They had two children, Linda Douglas and her husband Ralph of New Ipswich, NH, and Gary Cullen and his wife Kathy of Nampa, ID. She was the proud grandmother of three granddaughters and two great-granddaughters. Becca Birch and her husband Daniel, their daughter Andi and son Eli of Burns OR, Katy Conklin and her husband Matt of Nampa, ID, and Amy Coutu and her husband Shane currently stationed in Weisbaden, Germany with the US Army.

Irene was the oldest of five children and is survived by her brother, Joseph of Pittsfield, and a sister, Carol of Antioch, CA. She is preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Patty, and Janet. She had numerous nieces and nephews, and she cherished their company.

For many years, Irene enjoyed working as a secretary at Fitch Insurance Agency of Athol.
She was very adept at texting with her granddaughters and great-grandchildren and delighted in interacting with them in this way. Irene loved cats and gave a loving home to many cats over the years. Her cat, Inky, provided her with constant companionship for the last few years and was a source of endless entertainment. Irene was an accomplished artist and loved painting pictures for her family and friends, which will be appreciated for years to come. She lived in the Miller's Woods and River Bend senior community for many years, and with her sociable personality and wonderful sense of humor, had numerous friends there.

Irene, a devoted Christian, was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held at Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange, MA on May 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Followed by burial at Silver Lake Cemetery. A celebration of Life will be held at the clubhouse at Miller's Woods and River Bend, 739 Daniel Shays Hwy, in Athol, following the burial.
