ATHOL - Iris T. Dowal, 87 of 208 Colonial Drive, Athol, died Sunday, May 27, 2007 in the Baldwinville Nursing Home, Templeton. She was born in Athol, on September 10, 1919, the daughter of the late Gino and the late Christine (Cimonetti) Marchegiani. She grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School. She worked in the drafting room at Union Twist Drill as a draftsman, and also at Simplex Time Recorder in Gardner. She was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church, was a Eucharistic Minister and CCD Teacher. She was the chair of the Edward H. Phillips Post No. 102 American Legion Auxiliary for several years and a member for many years. She leaves her husband of sixty-five years, John V. Dowal;two daughters, Mary A. Fadel of Chelmsford, Christine L. Dowal of Chomedey, Quebec; three sons, Michael J. Dowal of New Hampton, NH, Peter M. Dowal of Moreno Valley, CA, John P. Dowal of Harwich, MA; two brothers, Claude Marchegiani of Gardner, Raymond Marchegiani of Gardner; nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, May 31, 2007 at 10:00 am in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fiske Funeral Home 1356 Main St., Athol. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made in her memory to Our Lady Immaculate Church - Building Fund 192 School St., Athol, MA 01331.
