Jack G. Hoxie
Athol – Jack G. Hoxie, 85, of Chestnut Street, died Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Athol Hospital.
He was born September 15, 1929 in New Haven, CT, the son of Joshua and Ruth (Ruwet) Hoxie. Jack grew up in Baldwinville, graduating from Templeton High School in 1947. He also attended Worcester Boy’s Trade School and graduated from Mt. Wachusett Community College with a degree in engineering. Jack served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and has resided in Athol most of his life.
He worked for the Rodney Hunt Company for 35 years until his retirement. Following his retirement he worked at Whipps, Inc. for 10 years. Jack enjoyed skiing, was an avid reader and was always working around his house on many different types of projects. He also enjoyed taking his family fishing and skating in his younger years, was a member of a bowling league, enjoyed all Boston sports, playing video games, taking home movies when the kids were growing up and especially spending time with his family and attending his granddaughter’s dance recitals. He was known amongst his family and friends as “smiling Jack.â€
Jack leaves his wife of 60 years, Esther (Morandi) Hoxie, two daughters, Karen Hoxie of Athol and Lynn Brothers and her husband Peter of Holden, and a granddaughter, Mary Brothers. He was predeceased by a brother, Lloyd Hoxie.
At Jack’s request no services are planned and a private burial will be at Gethsemane Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
