Templeton- Jalmar "Bill" Helman, 82, of Rindge, NH, formerly of Templeton, died peacefully on May 5, from complications of Alzheimer's Disease, at Alliance Health at Baldwinville.
Bill was born March 22, 1937, in Port Chester, NY, son of the late Hjalmar and Martha (Sjoholm) Helman. He graduated from Worcester Boys' Trade High School, receiving his plumbing license, and from the Peterson School in Boston for Engineering. Bill worked as a Stationary Engineer at the former James River Paper Company, then Weyerhauser. He then worked at Fitchburg State College as Assistant Chief Engineer, retiring in 2005.
He was a Master Mason and member of the Hope Lodge in Gardner for 55 years, the Snow Bound Club, Gardner Rabbit Club, and the Templeton Fish & Game Club. He was a big Red Sox and Patriots fan. Bill enjoyed spending time with friends and family, painting, fishing, traveling, motorcycling in his younger years, and loved to hear a good joke. He was a great man with a big heart and will be greatly missed.
He was predeceased by his wife, Carol (Szymczyk) Helman.
Bill leaves two daughters, Laurie Leger and her husband, Donald, of Orange, and Christine Porn and her husband, John of Gardner; his dear friend and caregiver for many years, Mary Ring of Rindge, NH; three grandchildren, Donna Fleming of Barre, Dan Leger of New Brunswick, Canada, and Jennifer Porn of CT; two great grandchildren, Jaime Bialak and Riley Fleming; a cousin, Arnold Wylonen of OH.
A calling hour will be held Friday, May 10, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Mack Family Funeral Homes, Lamoureux-Smith & Poliks Chapel, 105 Central St., Gardner. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery.
