Baldwinville- James H. Powers, Jr., 73 of 50 A Pearl Street, Winchendon, formerly of Baldwinville died Monday, July 1, 2008 in Health Alliance Hospital in Leominster following an illness.
Mr. Powers was born in Fitchburg on January 18, 1935 the son of the late James H. Powers, Sr. and Sigrid (Nelson) Powers. He had resided in Baldwinville for most of his life.
He was a truck driver for the former Crocker Transportation Company in Ashby, retiring in 1991. Mr. Powers was a former officer and member of the Westminster Rod and Gun Club, and the North Leominster Rod and Gun Club. His hobbies were fishing, shooting hunting and the outdoors. Mr. Powers also was known for breeding Siberian Huskies.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Joan G. (Bergevin) Powers of Winchendon, whom he married on February 11, 1956; three sons, Michael J. Powers of Gardner, Steven M. Powers of Baldwinville, and Dale M. Powers of Templeton; two daughters, Brenda H. Johnson of Ashby and Victorian I Powers Drury of Templeton; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 7, 2008 a 1 p.m. in the John H. Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Westminster. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 6 from 2-4 p.m. in the funeral home.
