James E. Young

James E. Young Athol – James E. Young, 61, of Crescent Street, died Sunday, June 22, 2014 at the Athol Hospital after be suddenly stricken ill at his home.      Jim was born in Athol, Massachusetts, June 6, 1953, the son of Edward A. Young and Genevieve A. (Schenk) Young.  He grew up in Phillipston, graduating from Narragansett Regional High School in 1972 and spent most of his life in Athol.  He was in the U.S. Navy during the Viet Nam War.       Jim worked for the L.S. Starrett Company for over 25 years and had previously worked for Eastern Furniture. He was always a devoted and hard worker. He loved playing scratch tickets, watching Web TV, writing in calligraphy and spending time with his companion and best friend, Mary Beasley.       He leaves two brothers Richard Young of Farmington, NH and David Young of Orange; four sisters, Carol McCall of Vacaville, CA, Helen Bassett and Betsy Geikie, both of Athol and Janice Tilikala of Leominster, his companion Mary Beasley and many nieces and nephews.         Services with military honors will be held at 11:00 A.M. atthe Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 11:00 .  Those wishing to donate in Jim’s memory may do so to the Athol Animal Shelter, for the care of animals, c/o the Athol Police Department, 280 Exchange Street, Athol, MA 01331.  Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol is directing arrangements.  For further information or to share a memory with the family go to: www.higginsoconnorfuneralhome.com.           $(document).ready(function(){ });
