ATHOL – Jane Ann (Lowell) McGuirk, 91 of Athol, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018.
Jane was born in Athol on March 15, 1927, the daughter of the late Henry C. Lowell and the late Viola A. (Britt) Guerin. She grew up in Athol and graduated with the Athol High school Class of 1945, serving as Class Secretary.
Jane worked for Hames Studio, New England Power Company, Minute Tapioca Division of General Foods, Thompson Insurance Company , Bruce’s Pharmacy and Dr. Fotios Ganias until her retirement.
Jane was a member of the Athol Congregational church since 1938 where she served on the Diaconate, sang in the junior and senior choirs, was a Stephen Minister, served on many church boards, committees and worked on many church fairs. She was an American Red Cross blood mobile volunteer, actively involved with North Quabbin Citizen Advocacy, A United Way volunteer, leader of Bluebirds, Cub Scouts, belonged to the Order of the Rainbow and Campfire Girls, a Camp Wiyaka alumnist and member of the Golden Ages and AARP. She enjoyed quilting, working with people and loved spreading God’s word.
She is survived by three sons: Neil P. McGuirk of Athol, Kevin M. McGuirk and his companion Melissa Burbank of Fitzwilliam, NH, SMSgt. Darren P. McGuirk and his wife Vickie of Cabot, AK; two daughters: Lianne Barlett of Orange, Patricia A. (Trisha) Wilkinson and her husband James of Mansfield; ten grandchildren, Cindy, Celena, Jerrod, Kelly, Keith, Megan, Annica, Emily, JP, and Evan; seven great grandchildren, Aidan, Connor, Kayla, Gabriella, Kelsey, Caleb, and Autumn; one great great grandchild, Colton, and soon to be, Coleman; three brothers: Lee Guerin and his wife Lynn of Marston Mills, Richard Lowell and his wife Marsha of Dover, NH, Robert Lowell of Salt Lake City, UT; one sister: Judy Talbot of Orange; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Patrick W. McGuirk, who died in 1989, and her brother Bruce Guerin.
Calling hours are Saturday, July 21, 2018 from 11am-12:30pm with the funeral immediately following at 12:30pm at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
