Jean-Louis Levasseur
Orange – Jean-Louis Levasseur, 79, of East River Street, died Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at the Athol Hospital.
Jean was born in Lowell, MA, December 23, 1935, the son of Louis and Marie Levasseur. He grew up in Westford graduating from Westford Academy in 1954 and from Fitchburg State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts. He served in the US Air Force from 1957 to 1961. He later moved to Bridgewater where he lived for many years and for the past 20 years has resided in Orange.
Jean worked as a tool designer for the Foxborough Company until his retirement. He also taught Industrial Arts at the Bridgewater Middle School from 1969 to 1983 and for the Veterans’ Hospital from 1963 to 1969.
He was a very accomplished woodworker having made all types of furniture, carvings and numerous items made from wood. Besides his woodworking he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, the New England Woodworkers Association and the Green Mountain Wood Carvers Association. Jean also volunteered at Athol-Orange Television.
He leaves his wife of nine years, Denise R. (Duteau) Levasseur; a daughter, Marguerite Fischer of Spencer and a son, John Levasseur of Holyoke; two grandsons, Jean Marc Levasseur and Brian Fischer.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 2:00 P.M.at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 185 Daniel Shays Highway, Orange, MA with Mr. James Leighton, speaking.
