Jeannine "Meme" Wirtanen

Gardner-Jeannine “Meme” Wirtanen, 92, died Saturday, December 10, 2022, at her home with her family at her side. 

She was the wife of 54 years to the late Edwin Wirtanen. 

She leaves three sons, John and his wife Linda, Eddie and his wife Tia and Robert “Bird” and his wife Christine; three daughters, Anna and her husband Donny, Kathy and Lisa and her husband Shaun; 22 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

Jeannine is also predeceased by three sons, Daniel, William, and Michael; and three grandsons, Jamie, Sonny, and Thomas.

She was born in Greenville, NH, on June 19, 1930, a daughter of the late Omar and Oliva Desrosiers. She grew up in Greenville along with her six brothers. She married Edwin Wirtanen in 1951, and they lived in Westminster where they raised their nine children.

Jeannine worked as a polisher at Nichols and Stone Furniture until her retirement. She and Edwin enjoyed playing golf, bingo and just being with their children and grandchildren. 

Jeannine will be remembered by many not as Mrs. Wirtanen or Jeannie but as Meme. She would be quoted and always remember to “Be a Good Doobie” 

Calling hours for Jeannine will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Mack Funeral Home, 105 Central Street, Gardner, MA 01440.
