It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joan F. Wilson, who left us peacefully on April 4, 2024. Born on October 15, 1939, in Richmond, VA, Joan dedicated her life to serving others and filling the world with her quiet strength and radiant positivity. She spent most of her life in Hubbardston, Massachusetts, where her warm spirit and compassion touched all those who were fortunate to know her.
Joan was a woman of incredible strength and resilience. After graduating high school, she embarked on a fulfilling career in civil service as a secretary, where her meticulous attention to detail, unrivaled organizational skills, and unwavering commitment to her work made her an invaluable asset. Despite her professional responsibilities, Joan made time to cultivate a rich personal life. In 1965, she married the love of her life, Benjamin Wilson, and they built a beautiful life together. Her greatest joy came from her role as a mother and later, a doting grandmother. Joan's love for her family was palpable, and she dedicated herself to nurturing a home filled with love, laughter, and warmth.
She is survived by her two loving daughters, Cheryl Palen and Michele Wilson, her cherished granddaughter, Paige Palen, and her dear sister, Marilyn Purcell. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Margaret Purcell, and her beloved husband, Benjamin Wilson. Joan's legacy of love, resilience, and dedication will continue to live on through her family and everyone else whose lives she touched.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 10:00 am EDT at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, Massachusetts, 01475. We invite all who knew and loved Joan to join us in honoring her life.
