John J. Baltakis

GARDNER - John J Baltakis, 90 of 184 Minott St., Gardner, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 in the Leo LaChance Rehabilitation Center, Gardner after a short illness. He was born in Fitchburg, on October 21, 1917, the son of the late John and the late Frances (Kanapatchkis) Baltakis. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Eighth Armored Division. He was a communicant of Holy Spirit Church, a member of the Knights of Lithuania and the Lithuania Outing Association. He was employed as a 3rd class boiler engineer at Worcester State Hospital for many years and was also employed by the former Florence Stove Company in Gardner. His hobbies included taking care of his house and animals. His special joy was gardening, which was reflected in his beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. He leaves his wife of 61 years: Eleanor (Pawlowicz) Baltakis of Gardner; one daughter: Nancy Moraski and husband Daniel of West Springfield; and one brother: Joseph Baltakis and wife Josephine of Gardner. He was predeceased by his two sisters: Helen Olsen of Gardner and Mildred Wall of Worcester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 10:00 am in the Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell St., Gardner. Burial will be in the spring in St. John's Cemetery. No calling hours are scheduled. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to a charity of one's choice or the MSPCA .
