ATHOL - John V. Batutis, 93 of 495 Cottage St., Athol, MA, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, in Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol.
He was born in Erving, on June 8, 1911, the son of the late Frank and the late Dame (Balcuis) Batutis. On September 4, 1933, he married the former Antena Baublis, who passed away on March 29, 1988.
Mr. Batutis worked for the Erving Paper Mill prior to moving to Athol, where he worked at the Union Twist Drill for 34 years, retiring in 1975.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a member of the Lithuanian Club in Athol. In his younger years he was active in boxing. He was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church.
He leaves three sons, Charles Batutis, Paul Batutis both of Orange, John Batutis, Jr. of Jamaica, VT; a daughter, Maryanne Dodge of Athol; two sisters, Mary White of Athol, Salome Gotautas of Auburn; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Joanne Batutis who died in 1946; by one brother, Charles Batutis; and two sisters, Mildred Nicewicz and Minnie Kavich.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 4, 2005, at 10:00 am in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol.
There are no calling hours.
