NEW SALEM - John W. DesRosiers, Sr., 62 of New Salem, died Friday, April 12, 2013 at home.
He was born in Northampton, MA, on August 16, 1950, the son of the late Ameedee and the late Eva (Young) DesRosiers.
He grew up in Leverett. He retired from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in February of 2012 after 42 years of employment as a steamfitter.
John enjoyed fishing, hunting, bird watching, mushrooming and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
He leaves his wife of 44 years, Patricia F. (Kuzmeski) DesRosiers; one daughter, Cynthia Ricchiazzi and her companion Jay LaHair of Athol; one son, John DesRosiers, Jr. and his wife Debbie of Athol; three grandchildren, Brian DesRosiers; Ashleigh Ricchiazzi; Joseph Ricchiazzi, Jr.; two step grandchildren, Shane Desruisseau; Magen Desruisseau and one great granddaughter, Madeline DesRosiers of Alaska.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, Prescott Road, New Salem. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Athol Memorial Hospital - Oncology Department, 2033 Main Street, Athol, MA 01331.
