ATHOL – John F. Dould, 73 of Athol, passed away Monday, February 8, 2021 at Care Central of Peabody, MA.
John was born on April 25, 1947 in Winchendon to the late Phillip Dould and the late Diana (Plantin) Dould. He attended Athol schools and graduated from Athol High School with the Class of 1965. He worked on the factory floor and in the office at the former Union Twist Drill company in Athol for 22 years, then going to work for the L. S. Starrett Tool Company as an inspector for 28 years.
John was a founding member and past president of the Pequoig Chess Club; member and past president of the HAM radio club for 60 years, an avid photographer, hunter and fisherman. He had an article in the Athol daily news for many years called “Chess Madness”. He went by the nickname Big John. John was a gentle giant with a heart of gold and a smile everyone remembers.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years: Kathleen (Lebreton) Dould of Athol, one son: Christopher J. Dould and his wife Kayleen of Jaffrey, NH; two granddaughters: Alexis and Brielle; three step-grandchildren: Sawyer, Beckham, Aubrey.
He was predeceased by his brother Phillip Dould and his sister Corrine Stoling.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
