John D. Eaton

Athol – John D. Eaton, 97 of Athol, passed away peacefully Friday June 16, 2017 at home. He was born on March 19, 1920 in Athol to the late Simon W. and Mary E. (Glennon) Eaton. He grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School with the Class of 1938. He had a love for tennis and was on the tennis team. After graduation he worked for the L. S. Starrett Company before serving in WWII with the United States Army, 83rd Armed Field Artillery Battalion covering tours in Naples, Foggia, Rome, Arno, southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. After returning home, John worked for Massachusetts Electric Co., was the general manager for Athol Gas Co., maintenance supervisor of the Athol Housing Authority, Vice President of the Colonial Bank and worked for m any years as a funeral assistant for the Fiske Funeral Home. John had a love for the outdoors. He loved hunting, trapping and fishing. He just simply enjoyed life. For all who knew him, was to love him. He will be missed. He is survived by his niece: Joan Anderson, two nephews: Freddy Eaton, Robert Sisson and family. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy H. (Rockwell) Eaton, two sons, and his sister Dorothy Eaton Root. A graveside service with full Military Honors will be held Monday, July 3, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol.
