ATHOL - John M. Grucan, Jr., 83 of 37 Union St., Athol, died Monday, February 18, 2008 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner.
He was born in Baldwinville, on February 3, 1925, the son of the late John and the late Rose (Perfloski) Grucan.
Mr. Grucan grew up in Baldwinville. He enjoyed fishing, family gatherings, and hunting with his dog, Prince. He was enlisted in the Army Air Corps from August 31, 1945 to December 9, 1946, and was also considered a hard worker. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post #129.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Wenonah (McLean) Grucan; one daughter, Linda Favreau and her husband Ronnie, of Athol; two sisters, Frances Grucan of Gardner, and Florence Stone of Athol; four brothers, Raymond Grucan and his wife Ellen of Baldwinville, Stanley Grucan and his wife Nellie, Peter Grucan, and Paul Grucan, all of Gardner; two grandchildren, Nicole Smart and Luke Smart, both of Athol; five special people that came into his life, they gave him love and made him smile: Shawn, Savannah, Sadey, Kane, and Jacob; he also leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Chester Popoloski; also by his three sisters, Janet Arsenault, Anna Bebau, and Helen Trinque.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Vincent De Paul Church, Baldwinvill. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to American Cancer Society's, New England Division Office, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
