TEMPLETON - John J. Jeleniewski, 83 of 22 Grandview Terrace, Templeton, died Saturday, November 17, 2007 in the Heywood Hospital, Gardner.
He was born in Gardner, on November 12, 1924, the son of the late Joseph and the late Mary (Morze) Jeleniewski.
Mr. Jeleniewski was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. He was involved in Battles and Campaigns in the United Kingdom, Canal Zone, Alaska, North Africa and Japan. He received the following citations American Area Ribbon, EAME Area Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Area Ribbon, the Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was self employed truck driver who was currently retired.
He was a communicant of Holy Cross Church. He was a lifetime member of the Gardner Lodge of Elks. He enjoyed bowling, deep-sea fishing and hunting.
He leaves his wife, Caroline(Czajkowski) Jeleniewski; two sons, John Jeleniewski, Jr. of Hammond, Indiana, Peter Jeleniewski of Templeton; one sister, Wanda Deveau of Derry, NH; four brothers, Edward Jeleniewski of Gardner, Alexander Jeleniewski of Leroy, Michigan, William Jeleniewski of Lunenburg, Richard Jeleniewski of Templeton; two granddaughters, Amie Lynn Jeleniewski of Rouses Point, NY; Carie Ann Jeleniewski of Templeton and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Hellen Yellen who died in 2005.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at 11:00 am in Holy Cross Church, 26 Lake Ave., East Templeton. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Templeton.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, November 21, 2007, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. in Poliks Funeral Home 431 Pleasant St., Gardner.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
