ATHOL - John B. Musante, 99, of 605 Chestnut St., Athol, died Monday, January 5, 2009 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol.
He was born in Athol, on June 2, 1909, the son of the late Joseph M. and the late Maria (Cavana) Musante.
Mr. Musante was a life long resident of Athol. He was educated in the Athol schools.
He was a member of the National Guard from 1930 to 1933.
He was employed by the Union Twist Drill for 34 years. He also worked at the Comb Shop and the Shoe Shop.
He was a member of the former Vikings Athletic Club and the UTD Fun Club.
Mr. Musante enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, mushrooming, bowling, softball, bocce, volleyball and basketball. In his youth, he enjoyed dancing.
He leaves one son: John Lawrence Musante and his wife Chris of Athol; two daughters: Althea Donahue of Ashburnham, Kaye Miller and her husband Don of Jacksonville, FL; one brother: Peter "Andy" Musante of Athol; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was predeceased by his wife of 35 years Evelyn E. Spring who died in 1974, by three brothers: Augustus Musante, Michael Musante and Charles Musante, and by two sisters: Theresa Haigis and Josephine Dube.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 10:30 am in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol. Burial will follow in South Cemetery, Orange.
A Calling hour will be held Saturday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
