ATHOL - John B. Phillips, Jr., 52 of 73 Cobb Road, Athol, died Thursday, October 25, 2012 in the UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, Worcester. He was born in Middleboro, MA, on March 12, 1960, the son of the late John B. Phillips and Barbara A. (Baker) Leitos. John grew up in Lakeville, MA and graduated from Apponequit High School in Lakeville. He was employed as a correction officer for the Massachusetts Department of Correction for 20 years.  He recently worked security for Heywood Hospital in Gardner.  He was also self-employed working in landscaping and general construction. John enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors.  He like to build bird houses and working with wood.  He watched NASCAR, hockey and bird watching. He leaves his wife of 31 years, Pamela J. (Flood) Phillips; one daughter, Cassandra L. Phillips of Athol;  two sons, Joshua B. Phillips of Athol, Richard E. Phillips of Nashua, NH; one sister, Laurie Boutin of Middleboro, MA; one brother, Shaun Phillips of Arizona;  a grandson, Jaden R. Phillips of Winchester, NH; a granddaughter, Hailey A. Souza of Athol and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 2, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange.  Burial will be private at a later date. Calling hours will be held Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 4  to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to American Lung Association National Headquarters, 1301 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Suite 800, Washington DC,  20004 or to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St., 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210.
