John W. Stangvilla

ATHOL - John W. Stangvilla, 89 of 184 Prospect St., Athol, died Saturday, January 27, 2007, in the Athol Memorial Hospital, Athol. He was born in Athol, on September 23, 1917, the son of the late Walter and the late Sophia Stangvilla. Mr. Stangvilla married Helena (Desantis) Stangvilla in 1943. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He worked and retired from Union Twist Drill after over 20 years of service. He was predeceased by his parents, by a brother, Joe Stangvilla, by a son Jay Stangvilla who died in 1993, and by two daughters, Jonetta Rhodes who died in 2001 and by Merrilee Randall who died in 2005. He leaves his wife of 63 years, Helena (Desantis) Stangvilla; one son, Alan Stangvilla and his wife Wanda of North Carolina; three sisters, Helen Kozik, Marion Kiss, and Ann Kimball all of Florida; one brother, Richard Stanville and his wife Kathie of Minnesota; and many grandchidlren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and close friends. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at 1:00 pm in Gethsemane Cemetery, Daniel Shays Highway, Athol. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, January 30, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol.
