WESTMINSTER- John F. Talbot passed away on February 22, 2017, at the Boston Medical Center. He was born in Gardner on November 15, 1935, son of the late Daniel and Catherine Talbot.
John went to Sacred Heart School and graduated from Gardner High School in 1953. He then earned an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Worcester Junior College and went to work at Heywood Wakefield. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. He then graduated from Fitchburg State College in 1964 and began a teaching career in Lunenburg where he stayed until retiring in 1998.
He has been an active member of the Westminster Lions Club for 47 years and in June of 2006, the club honored him with a life membership in Lions International. He has also been an active member of REAM (Retired Educators Association of MA), most recently serving as the treasurer of the North Worcester County Chapter.
John loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed traveling and was able to take many memorable trips. He liked to read and listen to Irish music.
He leaves his wife of 51 years, Ann; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Daniel of Billerica and Michael and Dr. Kimberly of Melrose; four grandsons, Ryan and Kyle of Reading, and James and Liam of Melrose. He leaves many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Edward and Joseph Flanagan, and a sister, Mary Mailloux.
Calling hours are Monday, February 27, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. in Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., Gardner.
The funeral Mass is Tuesday, February 28, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 10Church St., Westminster. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon.
