Athol - John A. Williams, 63, of 590 New Sherborn Road, died Sunday, March 8, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family after an 8 year battle with multiple myeloma.
He was born in Gardner, Massachusetts, August 12, 1945, the son of Alton E. and Lois C. (Olson) Williams. He grew up in Athol, attending schools and living his entire life in the community. He is a 1963 graduate of Athol Royalston Regional High School.
John was a member of the Carbs Club in Athol and a member of the Athol-Orange Baptist Church. He was an avid ice hockey player and coach, Bruins fan, NASCAR enthusiast and enjoyed biking, swimming, canoeing, slot car racing and loved his BMW. He had a passion for tractors and was known as "tractor John." He worked for the L.S. Starrett Company for 21 years and Simplex Company for 10 years as a design draftsman.
John especially enjoyed spending time with his precious wife and family. His motto was "live strong."
He leaves his wife of 44 years, Pamela J. (Frederick) Williams, one daughter, Lynn M. Williams of Athol, and two sons, John F. Williams and his wife, Christine, of Baldwinville and James A. Williams and his wife, Aimee of Athol. He leaves his mother, Lois C. (Williams) Gaudry of Athol and his sister, Nancy C. Lake, and her husband, Jim, of Athol; seven grandchildren, Max, Cole, Shelby, Daniel, Heaven, James, and Skyla. Additionally, he leaves his mother-in-law, Eileen Frederick, brother-in-law Daniel Frederick and his wife Terri, sisters-in-law KatrinaTatro and her husband John, and Diana DeGrenier and a beloved extended family, Anthony, Dominic, and Miko Nakagawa and her sons, Richard and Michael. John also leaves an aunt, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held at the Fiske Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, March 13th. A celebration of life service will be held at the Athol-Orange Baptist Church, 131 Ridge Avenue, Athol, MA on Saturday, March 14th at 11:00 AM with Rev. Mark Bariloni officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery.
