Joseph A. Baublis

ATHOL – Joseph Anthony Baublis, 88, of 78 Hampstead Place, Athol, died on Friday, July 1, 2011 at the Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol after an illness.                 Joseph was a lifelong resident of Athol, born on December 25, 1922, the son of the late Anthony and Veronica Baublis. He graduated from Athol High School and attended Fitchburg State College and earned his Bachelor’s degree and earned Master’s degrees in education from the University of Houston and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Mr. Baublis was a science and math teacher at Gardner Junior High School for thirty-five years until his retirement in 1985. He was a former communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Athol and a past exalted ruler of the Athol-Orange Lodge of Elks. Joe loved to read and was active with local libraries. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and traveling especially road trips.                 He leaves his wife of over sixty-five years, Edna G. (Simonetti) Baublis; two sons, Terry J. Baublis of Chicago, IL, Daniel C. Baublis of Mansfield; two daughters, Brenda A. Thomas of Haverhill, Melanie M. Baublis of South Orange, NJ; three grandchildren, Sarah Scanlon of Boston, Oliver Baublis of Mansfield, Madelaine Baublis of Mansfield; a sister-in-law, Margaret Simonetti; also many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.                 He was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey A. Baublis, in 2002; and by his five siblings, Tina, John, Stanley, Geneva and Broni.     Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol.     Calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.     In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Athol Public Library, 568 Main Street, Athol, MA 01331. $(document).ready(function(){ });
