OTTER RIVER – Joseph E. Dembek, 83 of 15 Turner St., Otter River died Friday, August 30, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Gardner on November 1, 1929 the son of the late Frank and Sophie Anna (Morze) Dembek.  He grew up in Gardner and was educated in Gardner. Mr. Dembek was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  He was employed at Royal Steam Heater Company in Gardner for 35 years and retired as the Shop Supervisor and Purchasing Agent in 1992. He was a communicant of St. Martin Church, a long time active member of the Otter River Sportsmen Club, a member of the PACC, a member of the Polish American Veterans where he served as Jr. Vice Chairman and a member of the Trustees of the Polish American Scholarship. An avid outdoorsman he enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping and gardening. Joe was predeceased by his wife of 53 years Patricia (Racine) Dembek who died in October of 2006. He leaves three sons, Keith Dembek and his wife Theresa of Gardner, Kriss Dembek and his wife Cindy of Gardner, Kirk Dembek and his wife Lisa of Otter River; two brothers, Leo Dembek of Gardner, Victor Dembek of Templeton; one sister, Frances Pardee of Gardner; four grandchildren, Andrew Dembek and his wife Lindsay, Ross Dembek, Cole Dembek, Lauren Dembek and many nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by four brothers, Chester Dembek, Anthony Dembek, Stanley Dembek, Richard Dembek and by two sisters, Alice Ducharme and Jennie Collier. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. in St. Martin’s Church, 248 State Road, Otter River.  All those attending are kindly asked to go directly to the church.  Burial with military honors will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant St., Gardner.   In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society – New England Division Office 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
