ATHOL - Joseph A. Gawronsky, 89, of 72 Wilson Ave., Athol, died Thursday, July 3, 2008 in the Baldwinville Nursing Home, Baldwinville.
He was born in Athol, on May 10, 1919, the son of the late Ygnas and the late Elizabeth (Plyoipyte) Gawronsky.
Mr. Gawronsky attended Athol schools.
He served during World War II in the Army in Northern France and Austria from April 9, 1943 to April 26, 1946, and received the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Army of Occupation Medal - Germany, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal.
He worked as a tool maker at L. S. Starrett Tool Company for 41 years before his retirement in 1981. He was a former member of the Athol American Legion Post No. 102. He enjoyed target shooting, archery, hunting, and fishing.
He leaves one son, John Gawronsky of Athol; one niece, Marsha Wiggin of Exeter, ME.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth E. (Wiggin) Gawronsky, on March 5, 2008.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in Gethsemane Cemetery, Daniel Shays Highway, Athol
There are no calling hours.
