GARDNER - Joseph J. Gemborys, age 90, died from complications of pneumonia on September 21, 2020 at Gardner Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. He was born April 19, 1930 in Gardner, the son of Paul and Helen (nee Bukowski) Gemborys. Joseph graduated from Gardner High School, Class of 1948. Shortly after graduation, he served as a Corporal in the US Army until 1954. After returning to Gardner he married Helen M. Kwasny for 59 wonderful years of marriage. During that time he was a letter carrier and supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service before retiring in 1986 to start his “second” career as an amateur oil painter. Among his many award winning works are historic scenes of the greater Gardner area. Many of his paintings are currently viewable in local civic and private locations. He was an officer in the Greater Gardner Artists Association and a member of the Leominster Art Association. When not painting Joseph could usually be found outdoors tending to his ever-growing garden with his neighbors benefitting from his generosity. Joe was also a life member of the Polish American Citizens Club and VFW Post #905 of Gardner. During the many parties at those locations his family and many friends will recall Joe and Helen as avid Polka dancers!
