Joseph F. Von Deck

ASHBURNHAM - Joseph F. Von Deck, 86 of 34 Russell Hill Rd., Ashburnham, died Thursday, March 9, 2017 at home. He was born in Athol on January 6, 1931, the son of the late Robert and the late Imelda (Young) Von Deck. Joseph was a resident of Ashburnham for the past 62 years, coming from Orange. He graduated from Orange High School with the Class of 1948. Joseph served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a teacher at Oakmont Regional High School for 41 years. While teaching there, he was a Department Chair and taught History, Social Studies, Math and English. He was a member of the Ashburnham Community Church, VFW of Ashburnham and the Ashburnham American Legion. He leaves one son, Philip Von Deck of Ashburnham. He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn (Strachan) Von Deck in 2007, his son Scott Von Deck in 2016 and his brother James F. Von Deck in 1989. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Lamoureux-Fletcher & Smith Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner. Burial in New Cemetery Ashburnham will be held at a later date. A calling hour will be held Thursday from 10 - 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
