GARDNER - Josephine T. (Siminski) Jankowski, the wife of the late police Sgt. Walter Jankowski, died quietly at the Mary Manning Walsh Home in New York City on October 23, 2009.
Mrs. Jankowski was born in Worcester, on March 28, 1912, the second child and first daughter of ten children. She grew up in Worcester and attended St. Mary's School. She moved to Gardner in 1941 after she and Walter married. She was an expert seamstress and worked for the Gem Crib and Cradle Company for many years. After her retirement in 1970, Josephine was an active member of the Gardner Women's Club, did volunteer work and pursued her interests in travel, art and needlework. For the past three years, Josephine has been a resident of the Mary Manning Walsh Home in New York City and was greatly loved by both the residents and staff because of her kindness and gentle spirit.
She is survived by two daughters: Anita Garoppolo and her husband Joseph of NY, Joan Kendall and her husband Rodney of Ridgefield, CT; a grandson Thomas Kendall of Cumberland RI; three sisters: Rose Misiewicz of Gardner, Ceil Banukiewicz of Worcester, Theresa Tishkiewicz and her husband Edward of Manchester, NH; one brother: Vincent Siminski of Sutton, MA
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 26, 2009 at 10:30 am in the St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Monday, October 26, 2009 from 9:30 - 10:15 a.m. at Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant St., Gardner, MA.
