GARDNER - Juliette M. (Pellerin) Mara, 80, of 66 Cherry Street, Gardner, died on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the Heywood Hospital in Gardner, surrounded by family.
Juliette was a lifelong resident of Gardner, born on July 27, 1931, the daughter of Patrick and Yvonne (Maillet) Pellerin. She graduated from the Holy Rosary School, Gardner High School class of 1949 and Mass General School of Nursing class of 1952. Mrs. Mara worked as a Registered Nurse for Heywood Hospital in Gardner for forty years. She was instrumental in the development of Heywood Hospital's Oncology Outpatient Department. Mrs. Mara's most recent position at Heywood was Nurse Manager for Outpatient Services and Clinical Director for the Oncology Outpatient Treatment Center. In 1991, she continued her nursing career in Leominster for five years until her retirement in 1996. Juliette was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
She enjoyed playing cards, quilting and crafts. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Juliette will be remembered for her lifelong, caring, and selfless devotion to her family, friends and community.
She leaves her husband of fifty-nine years, Philip J. “Max” Mara; two sons, John P. Mara and his wife Holly of Concord, Stephen M. Mara and his wife Gina of Gardner; two daughters, Patricia A. Mara and her husband Alan Kriskowski of Fairfax, VA, Lisa Mara Meehan of East Greenwich, RI; two brothers, Norman Pellerin of Columbia, SC, Ivan Pellerin of Keene, NH; eleven grandchildren, Eric Batt and his wife Alexandra Solomon of Charlottesville, VA, Kara Batt of Alexandria, VA, Jack Mara of Boston, Patrick Mara of Concord, Kate Batt of Fairfax, VA, Derick Mara of Gardner, Ryan Meehan of East Greenwich, RI, Jeffrey Mara of Concord, Jacquelyn Mara of Gardner, Nathan Meehan of East Greenwich, RI, Sean Meehan of East Greenwich, RI; also many close and lifelong friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 166 Cross St., Gardner. Burial will follow in Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon Street, Gardner.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to Sacred Heart School, 53 Lynde Street, Gardner, MA 01440.
