June J. Hawkes
Orange – June J. (Jones) Hawkes, 90, of 17 East Myrtle Street, died Thursday, November 22, 2012 at the Baldwinville Nursing Home.
June was born in Athol, Massachusetts, July 27, 1922, the daughter of William F. and Martha (Whitney) Jones. She grew up in Athol and since the age of 12 has resided in Orange, graduating from Orange High School in 1940. She worked as cafeteria manager at Ralph C. Mahar Regional High School for over 20 years, retiring in 1983.
June was a member of the Orange Congregational Church, serving on several boards and committees and also volunteered at the Cellar Closet at the church. She enjoyed collecting all kinds of butterfly collectables, knitting, crocheting, sewing and ceramics. June and her husband were avid campers most of their lives.
Her husband of 62 years, Robert W. Hawkes died September 9, 2005. She also leaves two sons; Roderick Hawkes and his wife Lee of Leominster and Whitney Hawkes and his wife Linda of North Haven, Ct; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Russell Jones of Chicopee and Richard Jones of Jefferson, OH and a sister, Barbara Rock of Gainesville, FL. Besides her husband she was predeceased by a son, Ralph Hawkes in 2002.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday. November 27, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Central Congregational Church, 93 South Main Street, Orange with the Rev. Dr. Megan Leary, pastor officiating. Burial will follow at South Cemetery and there will be a calling hour from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in June’s memory be made to the Central Congregational Church, 93 S. Main Street, Orange, MA 01364.
