WESTON - Kate (Butler) Peterson, 70, of Weston and formerly of Petersham, died on Monday, January 31, 2011 at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton.
Kate was born on November 4, 1940 and raised in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of the late Pat and the late Aimee (Mott) Butler. She studied English and American literature at the Rosary College in Chicago. After her marriage to Hall James Peterson in the early 1960s; they moved to Petersham in 1973 where they resided and raised their family for over twenty years. Mrs. Peterson was a homemaker for most of her life and enjoyed the arts, philanthropy and was an equestrian many years ago. More recently, Kate has resided in Boston and Provincetown before settling in Weston for the past ten years. She adored her grandchildren and spending time with them brought her great joy.
She leaves a son, Temple Peterson and his wife Siiri of Brattleboro, VT; a daughter, Aimee Peterson of Warwick, RI; two brothers, Pat Butler of Alexandria, VA, Peter Butler of Saint Paul, MN; her two grandchildren, Addie Peterson and Tobias Peterson of Brattleboro, VT; and her long-time friends and caregivers, Pat and Boris Gallego of Weston as well as Michelle and Steve Koss their children Hayden and Shayna and Anny Sanchez and her son Cristian; lastly her good friend Beth Cummings.
She was predeceased by her husband, Hall James Peterson, in 1994, and by her son, Jude Peterson, in 2009.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in East Street Cemetery, Petersham.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 11, 2011 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main Street, Athol.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to Caritas Carney Hospital, 2100 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester, MA 02124.
