ATHOL - Kenneth L. Bishop, 76, of 18 Harvard Avenue, Athol, died Monday, April 19, 2010 at home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Derby Line, Vermont, on August 4, 1933, the son of the late Henry and the late Nora Bell (Dresser) Bishop.
Kenneth was raised and educated in Vermont and moved to Athol in 1956. While in Vermont, he worked for Ethan Allen Furniture Manufacturing. More recently, Kenneth worked as a Foreman of Department 30 for the L. S. Starrett Tool Company for thirty-eight years until his retirement. Kenneth enjoyed the outdoors and was often doing yard work or camping with his family in New Hampshire and Peaceful Pines in Athol. He loved spending time with his family and annual visits to Vermont to visit relatives.
Kenneth leaves his wife of fifty-five years, Claire T. (Marcotte) Bishop; two daughters, Rhonda Euvrard of Athol, Nora Batutis of Athol; two sons, Robert Bishop of Indiana, Gary Bishop of Athol; one sister, Norine Royer of Coventry, Vermont; nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Cynthia (Bishop) White in 1996; by two brothers, Normand Bishop and Lawrence Bishop, who were both killed in action during World War II while serving in the United States Army; and by four sisters, Beatrice Kelley, Henrietta Manley, Alice Percy, Lillian Stanley.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main Street, Athol. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol.
A calling hour will be held Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Gardner Visiting Nursing Association, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440 or to the Athol Memorial Hospital's Oncology Department, 2033 Main Street, Athol, MA 01331.
