Royalston - January 30, 2017: Kenneth Luther Stewart, 88, of 64 Athol Richmond Road, Passed away peacefully at the home that he loved, with His loving family at his side.
He leaves the love of his life Doris V. (Woodbury) Stewart. They would have celebrated 67 years of marriage on March 4,2017. He leaves his children, Dorena M. Stewart-St.Onge, of Royalston, Daniel E.Stewart and his wife Lorraine, of East Templeton, Deborah A Henshaw and her husband Fred of Templeton. His brother Arthur E. Stewart of Eastham. His Grandchildren: Marc Stewart Winer and his wife Michelle of Agawam, Joshua A Winer of Philadelphia, PA., Carla Stebbins and her husband Matthew, of East Templeton, Stewart Henshaw, Luther Henshaw both Of Templeton. His Great Grand Childrern: Pryce Stewart and his fiance Kateri of Athol, Alicia and Phylecia Stebbins of East Templeton, Mara and Michael Winer of Agawam, Amy Joy Henshaw of Templeton. and many much loved Nieces and Nephews. He was predecesed by a brother Donald V. Stewart, a sister Ena Stewart Glasson and a son in law Michael K. St.Onge.
Ken owned and operated Ken Stewart Transmission Company Inc. in Gardner for 57 years. He and his wife owned and operated Lee's Hot Dog Stand in Baldwinville for many years. They spent winters at Odessa, Florida where they have many dear friends.
Ken was a World War ll Veteren serving his country in the US Army on board the USAT Admiral Sims.
He was an avid Trap and Sporting Clays Shooter. Winning many trophys over the years. He was in the Guiness Book of World Records as a member of a Marathon Trapshooting team. He was an alternate on the Olympic Trap shooting Team for the Olympics in Canada. He was a delegate on the MA Sporting Clays Association.
He was a Life Member of the Mass Amatuer Trapshooting Association. He was a member of several Shooting clubs including the former Athol Rod and Gun Club, The Barre Sportsman Club and The Silver Dollar Shooting Club in Odessa Florida.
He was a member of the VFW in Gardner and the American Legion in Athol and the Masonic Hope Lodge AF & AM in Gardner, where he recently received his 50 year metal.
The son of the late Eri & Bernice (Hager), he was born on Stewart Road in West Royalston. He lived there till he was 11 years old then moved to Gardner and graduated from Gardner High School. He and Doris lived in East Templeton for years. In 1983 he moved back to West Royalston living on land that has been in his family for over 200 years.
A memorial service will be held on March 4, 2017, 11:00am at the South Athol United Methodist Church in South Athol. There are no calling hours.
