Larry Michael Vaidulas, 65, lifelong resident of Athol, MA, passed away peacefully while being comforted by his family, on January 5, 2024. He died at UMASS Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
Larry is survived by a son Brian and a daughter Kathryn, Kathryn’s husband Jerod Hayes, and their children Benjamin and Emma. Larry also leaves his former wife Carole, his brother Kenneth and Ken’s life partner David Brothers, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Larry was friends with many people and his closest and dearest were Bernie and Connie Bruseghini.
Larry was predeceased by his parents Pete and Charlotte (Bullock) Vaidulas, a brother Peter Vaidulas, and a sister Virginia (Vaidulas) Taylor.
Larry graduated from Athol High School in 1976. He worked at McMannis Florist while in high school and then at Butler’s Paint before he was hired at the LS Starrett Company in 1977. Larry graduated the apprentice toolmaker course in 1983. He worked in various departments in the company and was foreman of the tool room until he passed.
Larry was an active member of the American Legion, the American Lithuanian Club, and the Deerfield Polish American Citizen’s Club. He loved dogs, especially Sandy, Luke and his Princess Leia. He could often be found socializing with friends, rooting for Boston sports teams, playing cards, going to the casino, watching birds, and tending to his yard and flowers. Larry liked to travel with family to Disney, Universal Studios, numerous ballparks, and to tropical resorts.
Calling hours will be held from 10-12 on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd, Orange, MA. There will be a brief service following calling hours at the funeral home.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at the American Legion, 40 Daniel Shays Highway, Orange, MA, immediately following the services. A private burial will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Athol Animal Control (checks may be made out to the Town of Athol with Animal Control on the memo line.)
