ATHOL - Laurier J. "Larry" Gionet, 75 of Athol, died Saturday, October 2, 2010 in the VA Hospital in Leeds, MA.
He was born in Winchendon, on July 15, 1935, the son of the late Joseph H and the late Agnes (Gionet) Gionet.
Larry grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School.
Mr. Gionet was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Army.
He was a Trappist Monk for three years; he went on to work in the movie industry in New York developing film for many years.
He leaves one daughter, Celeste Gionet-Hawker and her husband Steve of California; one son, Christopher Gionet of California; three sisters, Anne Scata of Newington, CT, Mary LeBlanc of Athol, Jacqueline Delude-Chiaradia of Hartford, CT; two brothers, Dolor Gionet of Athol, Albert Gionet of Manchester, CT; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 11:30 am in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, October 7, 2010, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home 137 Main St., Athol.
