ATHOL - Lawrence M. Blanchard, 94 of 421 Fredette St., Athol, died peacefully in his home on October 12, 2016.
He was born in Athol, on November 28, 1921, the son of the late Alphonse and the late Flora (Mallette) Blanchard.
Lawrence grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School. He honorably served in the Army during WWII. He worked for the L.S. Starrett Tool Company making micrometers for 42 years, retiring in 1983. He was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church, a member of the Athol Knights of Columbus Council 1182, American Legion, and VFW.
He leaves his devoted and loving daughter: Sharon Brighenti and her husband Anthony of Athol, two granddaughters: Laurie Parker of Athol and Elizabeth Robinson of Athol, five great-grandchildren: Samuel Parker, Luke Parker, Logan Parker, Andrew and Evelyn Robinson, two sisters: Janice Lefebre of Athol, MA, Nancy Blanchard of Orange, MA and one brother: Roger Blanchard of Pepperell, MA.
He was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Evelyn "Babe" (Hammond) Blanchad in 2015, by his brother Howard Blanchard and his sisters Verda Wilson, Vona Blanchard and Norma Blanchard.
Lawrence lived a long and fulfilling life and enjoyed traveling with his wife, spending winters in Florida, vacationing on the New Hampshire coast, woodworking, and reading. He was a member of the Ellinwood Country Club, where he golfed for many years and he was an avid fan of New England sports teams. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved ones and he will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind. He will be remembered as a kind, gentle, and honorable man that had a wonderful sense of humor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 10:30 am in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Saturday from 9 - 10 am at the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
