ATHOL - Lawrence H. Cody, 86 of 1217 White Pond Rd., Athol, died Thursday, May 2, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Athol, on February 23, 1927, the son of the late Stephen J. and the late Anna H. (Kielar) Cody. Mr. Cody was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Seabees. He spent most of his working years as a union brick mason. He also worked at the L.S. Starrett Company for many years retiring in 1992. In his spare time he enjoyed sailing, snowmobiling , and traveling with his wife Ann. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, fly tying, and going to tag sales, and collecting “treasures”. He enjoyed attending the Quabbin Valley Auction and was well known there as #33; He loved watching his grandson and great grandsons play football and was one of the biggest fans of the Athol High School Football Teams. He was a former dirt track racer and enjoyed watching NASCAR racing , short track racing and particularly following the races of the #91 race car, of his grandson. He loved spending time with his family and his beloved dog ,Delia. He leaves three daughters, Lauran Witts and her husband Frank of Orange, Lucinda Fisher and her husband Bruno of Athol, Cheryl Lajoie and her husband Michael of Royalston; one son, Scott Cody of Athol; four grandchildren Laurie Saisa, Jason Witts, Cathy Witts, Jacob Lajoie; six great grandchildren Ryley Saisa, Evan Saisa, Lucas Saisa, Eryn Witts, Elysia Witts, Amelia Witts; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Ann T. (Blanchard) Cody who died in 2009, by a son, Lawrence Joseph Cody who died in 1997, and by a brother, Stephen Cody. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Fiske- Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange. Burial with military honors will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol. Calling hours will be held Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 9:30 – 11 a.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Athol Royalston Athletic Association; Athol High School; Attention Donna Lajoie; 2363 Main St, Athol, MA 01331.
