Lawrence Robert Gammell

Lawrence Robert Gammell, born Feb. 13, 1927 in Ashburnham to Phillip & Jennie (Routh) Gammell passed into the waiting arms of his loving wife of 57 years, Gloria (Shachoy) on Nov 18th at the age of 90. He was predeceased by Gloria in 2007 and his siblings Mabel Christensen, Ruth Gionet, Rose Bresnahan, Delia Atherton, and Melvin (Jim) Gammell. Larry leaves 4 children: Larry (Bette) of FL, Kathy (Jim) Koroskenyi of PA, Bob (Sue) of Southbridge and Linda (Art) of Gardner, 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. A WWII Veteran and lifelong resident of Ashburnham, he was active in the VFW, was a civil defense director, volunteer fireman and auxiliary police officer for many years; worked at Independent Lock as a foreman and Simond’s Saw and Steel as a security guard. His happiest times were spent traveling with Gloria and photographing wildlife. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 21, at 11:00 AM at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St., Winchendon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452. Lamoureux-Smith & Poliks Funeral Home, a Mack Family Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner, is awaiting the family with arrangements.
