Leominster- Lawrence J. Hanney, 72, of Leominster, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday march 6, 2014 in UMass Medical Center, Worcester. Larry was born in Clinton, an only child to Lawrence and Theresa (Haire) Hanney. He grew up in Leominster and graduated from Saxton Trade School in 1958. He worked as a self -employed auto mechanic on Central Street in Leominster for many years. He later went on to work at Leominster Recycling Company and then as a care taker for the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #477 in Leominster where he had been a very active member since 1969. Larry was very proud of his Irish heritage. He enjoyed listening to Irish music. One of his treasured memories was his trip to Ireland one year where he was able to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. He also enjoyed fishing, cars, and spending time with his friends at the Eagles Club. Larry leaves behind his former wife; Rae E. Hanney of Leominster, his son; Lawrence Hanney Jr. and his wife Debra of Leominster, four daughters; Francine Leger and her husband David of Fitchburg, Robin Sellars of Fitchburg, Kelly Bond and her husband Allen of Leominster, and Christine Hanney and her companion Matt Avallone of Leominster, Ten grandchildren; Heather, Danielle, Janice, Sarina, Sarah, Gabrielle, Nathan, Alec, Owen, and Myles, two great-grandchildren; Lucas, and Kendall. Many nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. The family invites you to attend A Celebration of his Life on Sunday, March 16th from 1:00pm to 5:00 pm at the Eagles Hall, 456 Litchfield St., Leominster. Burial will be in St. Leo’s Cemetery in the spring at the convenience of the family.
