Lawrence P. Oliva passed on June 28, 2017 at the age of 70, after a short illness. He leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Dianne (Stone) Oliva of Gardner; his son, Michael Oliva of Baldwinville; and his daughter, Michelle Oliva of Falmouth.
Larry was born on August 28, 1946 in Gardner, MA to Ernest A. Oliva and Mary (Lore) Oliva. He grew up in a loving family with two brothers. He graduated from Gardner High School in 1964. For many years Lawrence worked as a diesel mechanic and for the last 20 years was an Outside Sales Rep for Fleet Pride Truck and Trailer Parts.
Larry was a lifelong resident of Gardner. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed sports, fishing, woodworking and gardening. In his younger years he enjoyed playing softball and was a member of the Italian American Club and the Jackson Eagles. As a child he was the very first recipient of the Lester LaRoche Award, the most coveted Little League prize given for outstanding sportsmanship.
Larry is survived by his wife and children; his brother, Robert Oliva and his wife Mary; and his granddaughter Megan Oliva, & many nieces & nephews. He is preceded by his parents; and his brother, Steven Oliva.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday July 8, 2017 from 1:00-2:00pm followed by a funeral service at the Lamoureux-Smith & Poliks, a Mack Family Funeral Home 105 Central St. Gardner, MA.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
