ATHOL - Leah (Adams) Hachey born May 2, 1917, passed away at the age of 99 on September 18, 2016 at Quabbin Valley Health Care of natural causes and was surrounded by loving family and friends.
She was daughter of Clifford M. Adams and Florence Pelkey, both of Athol, MA.
Her death was preceded by her husbands’ Henry J. Hachey in 2007. They were married for 69 years.
Leah leaves three children, Elaine Lawton, Wayne Hachey and Raymond Hachey. Her siblings preceded her in death, Olive Cecelia Casey and Meleana Gelinas.
Other beloved family members include 10 grandchildren, Michael Lajoie; Jeffrey Lajoie; Kathleen Roberts; Deborah Herk; Lisa Thompson; Wendy Shewalter; Leanne Hachey and Amanda Wright; Angela Hachey and Austin Hachey. She also leaves behind 21 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Having lived an exceptionally long life, Leah witnessed several major world events including WW I, the Great Depression, and WWII. She graduated Athol High School class of 1935. Leah was well known for her impeccable talents in sewing, gardening , cooking and baking. She was a devoted member of Our Lady Immaculate Church of Athol MA, for her entire life, and lived all her life in Athol. Leah had a kind and steady disposition and for the last years of her life she was her family’s matriarch. She made many sacrifices for the benefit of and on behalf of her family, church, and community. Henry, her husband was a decorated WWII veteran who served heroically and with honors. The last year and a half of her life she was a patient at Quabbin Valley Health Care. The many aids and staff grew to love her as family. Leah’s children and grand-children would like to express gratitude for the tenderness of care that she received in the final days of her life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday Sept 22nd at 10:30 at Our Lady Immaculate Church 192 School St. Athol, MA 01331. A private graveside service is scheduled following the mass.
No calling hours will be held.
