Lena B. (Bilotta) Campobasso, 88, of Leominster, passed away on Tuesday February 11, 2014 at home peacefully with her family by her side. She was born on October 25, 1925 in Leominster, the daughter of the late Vincent and Victoria (Faticanti) Bilotta and resided in Leominster all of her life.
Lena graduated from Leominster High School in 1943. She was a caregiver to her seven children and when her youngest child started grammar school, she went to work for Johnny Appleseed School as a cafeteria manager for many years.
Lena was an active member of St. Anna’s Church, St. Anna’s Society, St. Anna’s prayer group, St. Anna’s Choir as well as a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of the Franciscan 3rd Order, and helped in the forming of and past president of the Lassie League Softball in Leominster.
Lena will always be remembered for her Italian cooking and her ability to be able to teach her children how to cook. She loved to crochet, play brain games, put together puzzles while watching Korean TV, and was a huge history buff. She would often be seen watching period movies and was known to be a historian.
Lena leaves behind three sons; Atty. Vincent Campobasso and his wife Colleen of Sterling, Thomas Campobasso and his wife Kimberly of Templeton, and Atty. Peter Campobasso and his wife Monica of Lancaster, three daughters; Ann Marie Campobasso and her husband John Nelson of Leominster, Christine Piermarini and her husband Carl of Leominster and Deborah Pelletier and her husband William of Leominster with whom she lived, fifteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 33 years, John A. Campobasso, one son; Steven Campobasso of Leominster one brother; Vincent Bilotta, three sisters Theresa Crisci, Lillian Bilotta, and Angela Marrama, all of Leominster.
Calling hours will be held from the Simard Funeral Home 14 Walker Street, Leominster on Friday February 14, 2014 from 4:00pm-8:00pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Anna’s Church 199 Lancaster St. Leominster on Saturday February 15, 2014 at 10:00am. Burial will follow in St. Leo’s Cemetery, Leominster.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations in Lena’s name be made to the St. Anna’s Restoration Fund 199 Lancaster Street, Leominster, MA 01453 or to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute 10 Brookline Place West 6th Floor, Brookline MA 02445 or may be left at the funeral home.
