WINCHENDON - Leo Cantin, 85, of 3 Elm Street, Winchendon formerly of Leominster died Friday, December 4, 2009, in the Golden Living Center, Fitchburg. He was born December 18, 1923 in Leominster the son of Alfred and Alice (Chapdelaine) Cantin. He grew up in Leominster and was educated in Leominster. Leo was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army with the 191st Tank Battalion 45 Division. He was employed as a tool and dye maker at Marlee Dye in Leominster for many years. He leaves a brother Normand J. Cantin of Leominster; a sister Therese Stang of Terryville, CT; a grandson Liberty Vanhine of Arizona and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Gale Vanhine and by a sister Jeannine Bergeron. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, December 7, 2009, at 1 p.m. in St. Cecilia's Church 180 Mechanic Street, Leominster. Burial will be at a later date. A calling hour will be held Monday, December 7, 2009, from 11:30 to 12:30 at the Simard Funeral Home 14 Walker St., Leominster. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made in his memory to St. Cecilia's Church Restoration Fund 180 Mechanic St., Leominster, MA 01453.
