ATHOL - Leo E. Desreuisseau, 76, of Athol, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the Heywood Hospital in Gardner after a two-year battle with cancer.
Leo was born in Glover, VT, on September 20, 1934, the son of the late Amey and the late Madeline (Stevens) Desreuisseau. He attended Orange schools and was a longtime resident of Athol. Many years ago, he worked for the Erving Paper Mill, Modern Printing and Sabettini Printing. More recently, Mr. Desreuisseau worked for the former N. D. Cass Company in Athol for five years until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the American Lithuanian Naturalization Club and a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Club. Leo enjoyed his family, crossword puzzles and the Red Sox and Patriots.
He leaves his wife of fifty-four years, Jacqueline (Musante) Desreuisseau; four children, Gary Desreuisseau, Ellen Barnes and her husband Tim, Lynette Chandler and her companion Keith Dooling, Chris Rice and her husband Frank, all of Athol; six grandchildren, Sara Desreuisseau of Barre, Nicholas Chandler of Orange, Timothy Chandler, Andrew Chandler, Dylan Barnes and Marissa Rice, all of Athol; one sister, Kathleen Whittimore and her husband Edward of Athol; three brothers, Arthur Desreuisseau and his wife Julia, Roland Desreuisseau and his wife Susan, Dana Desreuisseau, all of Orange; also several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Gordon Desreuisseau, Donald Desreuisseau, Larry Desreuisseau; and by a sister, Gloria Gauthier.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Silver Lake Cemetery, Horrigan Avenue, Athol.
There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol, MA 01331or American Cancer Society's New England Division Office, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
