LEO J. NAULT, SR. ATHOL- Leo J. Nault, Sr., 76, of 262 Partridgeville Road, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002 in Palmer Healthcare Center, Palmer, Mass., following a lengthy illness. He leaves his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth (Canuel) Nault; a son, Leo J. Nault, Jr. of Athol; two daughters, Rose Senecal of Athol, and Mary Lou Olson of Munson, MA; a brother, Norman Nault of Athol; three sisters Beatrice Maroni, Mina Britt and Margaret Nault, all of Athol; five grandchildren: Peter Batutis, Paul Batutis, Jennifer Senecal, Gena Hope, Elizabeth Racine, and Kim Southwick; six great-grandchildren, Alex Batutis, Christopher Hope, Jacob Hope, Kendra Pease, Katelyn Henderson, and Errika Jarose; and one great-great-granddaughter, Kady Southwick; and many nieces and nephews. A daughter, Betty Batutis, died in 1990. He was born in Berlin, NH, Dec. 4, 1925, son of Nelson and Valerie (Frechette) Nault, and was a lifelong resident of Athol. He attended Athol Schools. A United States Marines veteran of World War II, he served as a corporal and was involved with the Battle of Iwojima in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Nault was a stationary engineer at Athol Table Shop for over 30 years, and later for the Conant and Ball Furniture Company in Gardner, retiring in 1988. An avid hunter, he enjoyed fishing and camping. At Mr. Nault's request, no funeral services are planned. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Palmer Healthcare Center-Resident Council, 250 Shearer Street, Palmer, MA 01069.
