Leola M. Hereford
Athol – Leola Marie (Doiron) Hereford, 84, of 379 West Royalston Road, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester.
Leola was born in Templeton, Massachusetts, March 29, 1929, the daughter of Emile and Zelica (Johnson) Doiron. She grew up in Athol where she attended schools, married Fernand (Gus) Gamache, and raised two sons. Leola worked as a dental assistant for Drs. Larocque and Grossman for nearly 20 years. She remarried in 1975 and moved to Harwich, MA. She and her husband James A. Hereford operated the Brush & Palette in Chatham, an arts supply and photography store. James died in 1998, and Leola returned to reside in Athol in 2004.
She was very artistic in painting and decoupage. While living on the Cape she was a member of the Chatham Baptist Church.
She leaves two sons; Steven Fernand of Benzonia, MI and Gary Gamache and his wife Darlene of Orange; three step children, Heather McGrath of Orleans, MA, Jill Caskey of Barrington, RI, and James Christopher Hereford of Harwich; four grandchildren, Amalia and Eliza Fernand and Renee and Brian Gamache; seven step grandchildren; three brothers, Donald Doiron of CA, Gerald Doiron of FL and Yvon Doiron of NH; two sisters, Lorraine Thompson of CA and Yvonne Soucie of Athol and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Reane and Everett Doiron, predeceased her.
Calling hours will be held Friday, August 2, 2013 at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 7:00 p.m. The Rev. Mark D. Bariloni, pastor of the Athol-Orange Baptist Church will officiate. A graveside service will be held Monday, August 5th at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Harwich, MA.
